About
Dr Andrew R. Hamilton has research interests in the development and mechanical characterisation of new and novel materials for structural and multifunctional uses. His research makes use of additive manufacturing (AM) and layer-wise coating techniques for processing materials with unique microstructures, properties, and targeting improved performance.
Of particular interest are:
- Characterisation of porous materials including effects of anisotropy, heterogeneity, and processing outcomes on mechanical behaviour and biodegradation.
- AM of metamaterials with controlled porous architectures, polymer foams, and templated coatings onto porous substrates.
- Failure of AM metals and bimaterial metal joints including effects of processing outcomes.
- Layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly of multilayer coatings for high mechanical strength/stiffness, and multifunctionality including biocompatibility, biodegradation, and antimicrobial activity.
You can update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading and then ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘About’.
Write about yourself in the third person. Aim for 100 to 150 words covering the main points about who you are and what you currently do. Clear, simple language is best. You can include specialist or technical terms.
You’ll be able to add details about your research, publications, career and academic history to other sections of your staff profile.
