I am a toxicologist with a background in investigating the effects of nanoparticles, including air pollution particulate matter, on in vitro cell models of the lung. Previous particles I have worked with include carbon nanotubes, biodiesel and diesel particulate matter, and shipping-associated particulate matter. I am transitioning to an independent Fellowship on the theme of Climate and Health. My research will focus on exploring the impact of rising ambient temperatures on particulate matter-associated lung and heart disease. This interdisciplinary research will involve collaborations with colleagues at the National Oceanography Centre and Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI), as well as knowledge exchange with external partners.
I am a Champion of Coastal Communities Special Interest Group (SMMI) as well as a representative on the Faculty of Medicine Postdoctoral and Fellowship Mentoring Committees. I am the Lead for “Have a Breath of Fresh Air” – a team involved in engaging the public about air quality and respiratory health. I also am actively involved in school workshops and the University of Southampton’s Meet the Scientist programme.
I joined the MSc Allergy programme as Deputy Assessment Lead and am involved in mentoring (Personal Academic Tutor 2021-), teaching, and supervising in the Faculty of Medicine.
