Jackie moved to England for marriage and has worked for KPMG Peat Marwick in Washington, DC & London as well as Spicer & Oppenheim, London. Jackie specialised in Investment Banking, Stock Broking and Insurance before moving into International Banking as an Assistant Financial Controller with the Northern Trust Company, London (Northern Trust Bank of Chicago). After 12 years in Public and Commerical Practice, Jackie moved from London and into Higher Education where she became a Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton for 8 years. Jackie then used her teaching and degree background, becoming the Head of Economics at two boarding schools for 10 years. She returned to HE 4 years ago as a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance with Solent University.
In public practice, she specialised in Investment Banking, Insurance and Stock Broking, conducting both audits and special reviews for some of the top banks and insurance companies in the USA and London. These included loan portfolio exposures, mortgage broking deed & compliance reviews, takeover and insolvency audits, claims & reinsurance and investment systems controls reviews. In addition, she conducted a review of the UK Banking, Corporate Finance and Treasury Divisions of a major UK Investment Bank in both the UK and North America. Her special projects included reviewing US government procurement procedures and compliance in 5 major US cities.
In Investment Banking, she was an Asset & Liability Manager for Midland Bank where she monitored and hedged liquidity of non-interest bearing assets & liabilities and wrote and presented a paper to the Board on “ Funding Gaps & Risk Transfer Deals”. Additionally, she developed the accounting and reporting systems to support one of the first Mortgage Securitisations in the UK.
As Assistant Financial Controller for the Northern Trust Company, the London arm of The Northern Trust Bank of Chicago, she coordinated all financial & regulatory reporting and audits, including Statutory, Inland Revenue, Customs & Excise, Bank of England and the Federal Reserve. She assessed and acted on all new internal and external US and UK Accounting Standards including FASB’s, SAPS, SAS’s, GAAP’s, SORP’s and determined the regulatory impact of new global custodian products. Additionally, she reviewed processing and controls over Foreign Exchange deals and Money Market Deposits & Liabilities as well as researched and implemented a new Bank of England regulatory reporting system. Jackie also delivered “Absolute Quality and Continuous Improvement” training bank wide to directors.
Jackie started her teaching career as a Teaching Fellow at The University of Southampton and was there for 8 years. As module leader, she delivered lectures and seminars for 3rd year International Banking, Post Graduate Accounting for Bankers and seminars for 3rd Year Accounting for Non-Specialists & 1st year Financial Accounting.
Before joining Solent University as a Lecturer, Jackie was Head of Economics at two top boarding schools for 12 years which has provided her with a wealth of experience working with young people and international students.
In her 4 years at Solent University, she was module leader on a variety of units on both the undergraduate Accounting and Finance degree, the Business Management and Construction Management Degree and Business Finance for both the CMDA and Senior Leaders Apprenticeship Programmes. As Level 5 leader, she looked after the academic and personal wellbeing of the Level 5 BSc in Accounting and Finance students as well as acted as placement lead for the A & F 4 year degree programme.
