Ross English gained his PhD from the Department of American Studies at the University of Keele in 1999. Prior to joining Southampton he worked in a wide range of roles within Higher Education: as a lecturer at the Universities of Reading, Westminster and Birkbeck (University of London), for the researcher development organisation Vitae, as University Lead on Doctoral Student Development at King’s College London and as Doctoral College Manager at the University of Brighton.
