Current research
My research is part of the iWeld project, which aims to improve conventional ultrasonic inspection with modern characterisation and identification methods deployed in situ. The assessment of data obtained from wave propagation in inhomogeneous anisotropic materials remains a challenging task. Current methods are known to yield poor imaging quality with unfocused defect signatures leading to incorrect data interpretation, such as defect position and size. This rises as a topic of interest in the nuclear industry, where the inspection of inhomogeneous thick section welds is vital to meet safety standards. Thus, the research underpins safe operation of critical assets in nuclear energy and petrochemical facilities.
