Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences
The Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences (CLAS) carries out research within Medical Education related to Anatomy.
The themes of research within CLAS are related to gamification. Gamification is a useful tool for building positive experiences early with what many medical students consider one of the most challenging subjects in early years medicine.
By introducing radiological anatomy very early on in a student’s career we give them the ability to correlate the learning of gross anatomy with relevant radiological imaging.
Learning about how the COVID pandemic has augmented our approach in delivering the teaching of anatomy at Southampton and what we have learnt from this, as well as the importance of surface anatomy as a fundamental component of our training of future doctors.
To assist the academic staff within CLAS with these areas of research, we offer students in their third year of the undergraduate medicine programme the opportunity to work with us in all these areas.
One of our staff has just started a PhD in Medical Education within CLAS to explore how we can enhance the teaching of surface anatomy within our early years curriculum.
