Dr Jane Gibson is an Associate Professor in Cancer Bioinformatics and Genomics within Medicine at the University of Southampton.

Current research
Dr Gibson has experience in bioinformatics, and expertise the computational analysis of high throughput next generation sequencing data. Including exome, whole genome, epigenome, and transcriptome analyses, as well as Genome-Wide Association studies.
Her research involves bioinformatics approaches to understanding cancer, the human genome and the changes which can lead to disease. Leveraging the molecular data generated from a range of technologies to understand the development, progression, and response to treatment in cancer.

Teaching
Dr Gibson in Doctoral Progamme Lead for Cancer Sciences. She is co-module lead for the MEDI6235 Genomic Informatics module and lecturer on the MEDI6237 Genomic Technologies and Basic Informatics module of the MSc in Genomic Medicine. She also supervises and marks MSc and iPhD research projects.
She contributes to the undergraduate BM5 programme, taking on the role of Personal Tutor and supervising 3rd year research projects and associated project marking.
Dr Gibson also contributes to teaching in BSc Biomedical Science, Biochemistry and Pharmacology programmes, delivering lectures and workshops on Bioinformatics (BIOL3063/6074/6055).
