Having completed his BSc in Economics at the University of Birmingham, Richard started his career working as an auditor at KPMG where he completed his ACA.
Richard moved into Higher Education in 2012 working at Southampton Solent University where he completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and obtained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. He joined Southampton Business School in 2015.
Richard specialises in teaching Audit and is interested in the role of extra and co-curricular activities in supporting the learning and professional development of students, graduates and professionals.
He has pioneered the use of ICAEW educational films at universities and regularly presents sessions using them at conferences in the U.K. and abroad.
True to his interests, off campus, Richard is a Non Executive Director at CNWL NHS Foundation Trust and Places for People, a Governor at Motability and an Independent External Member of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee at the National Audit Office.
He continues to be an active member of his professional institute, having stepped down from the ICAEW Council and as Chair of the ICAEW Assessment Committee.
In terms of Public Policy Richard worked for the Department for Education in the development of their T-Level in Accounting.
In 2018 Richard was included in the Shaw Trust Power List, a listing of the 100 most influential disabled people in the U.K.
