Ishmael Tingbani is an Associate Professor in Accounting at Southampton Business School, University of Southampton. He earned his PhD from the Centre of Finance and Risk at Bournemouth Business School and is a qualified Chartered Banker with a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from Bangor University and an undergraduate degree in economics.
He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Member of the Institute of Environment Management and Assessment.
Ishmael has supervised PhDs to completion and has externally examined PhDs at other institutions. He welcomes PhD research proposals that are aligned with any of his current research interests above.

Current research
Ishmael’s focus recently has been on exploring:
- The implications of emerging technologies (Artificial intelligence, Fintech, Crypto Currency, Blockchain and Predictive Analytics) on modern finance and accounting systems.
- The financial impacts of sustainability and how best to effectively use sustainability reporting as a tool to communicate those impacts to investors and relevant stakeholders.
- Economic value-based analysis (Cost-benefit analysis)
- Financial market reactions to changes in corporate governance, innovation, environmental sustainability/climate change, cyber-attacks, global terrorism and shocks/risk, political risk
- Implications of fiscal policies (taxation), innovative financial products (green bonds) and gender equality within corporate boardrooms
- Issues relating to corporate finance, earning management, auditing, Tax avoidance and market-based accounting research.

Ishmael’s teaching cuts across accounting and finance, having taught modules such as Quantitative Research Methods, Management Accounting, Environmental Reporting, Advanced Accounting Theory and Practice, Money, Banking and Financial Services, and Corporate Finance to accounting and finance students.

Biography
Ishmael Tingbani is an Associate Professor in Accounting at Southampton Business School, University of Southampton. He earned his PhD from the Centre of Finance and Risk at Bournemouth Business School and is a qualified Chartered Banker with a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from Bangor University and an undergraduate degree in economics. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Member of the Institute of Environment Management and Assessment.
Internationally, Ishmael is known for his specialist interest in accounting, financial, and economic base-policy research. His research has been published in a variety of journals, including the Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting (3*), International Review of Financial Analysis (ABS ranking 3*), Journal of Business Research (ABS ranking 3*), Business Strategy and the Environment (ABS ranking 3*), Production Planning and Control (ABS ranking 3*), International Journal of Finance and Economics (ABS ranking 3*), among many others.
He has served as guest editor and reviewer for several internationally leading academic journals (e.g., British Journal of Management, British Accounting Review, International Review of Financial Analysis, Academy of International Business insights, among many others) as well as external examiner of degree programmes at many universities. He has received research grants funding totalling over £150k and has examined and successfully supervised to completion in the above-named research areas.
