Dr Gina Vale is a Lecturer of Criminology based in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology at the University of Southampton. She is also an Associate Fellow of the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) and a member of Vox-Pol.
Her research takes a feminist, intersectional approach to terrorism and extremist violence. She primarily focuses on terrorist governance, genocide, extremist propaganda, and the roles and experiences of women and children. Her work has been published by Studies in Conflict & Terrorism, Critical Studies on Terrorism, Small Wars & Insurgencies, CTC Sentinel, and Conflict, Security & Development, among others.

Biography
Dr Gina Vale joined the University of Southampton in 2022. She previously held a post-doctoral fellowship at King’s College London, where she was Senior Research Fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR).
Gina has academic and professional experience in Europe, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa, and has conducted extensive fieldwork in internally displaced persons camps in Northern Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan.
Alongside academic journals, her work has been featured in print and broadcast journalism, including the Netflix documentary ‘World’s Most Wanted’, which focused on the radicalisation trajectory of Samantha Lewthwaite (The ‘White Widow’).
Gina holds a PhD in War Studies and a MA in Terrorism, Security and Society from King’s College London, and a BA(Hons) in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge.
