About
Hywel Morgan is professor of bioelectronics in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) having moved from the University of Glasgow in 2003.
From 2016 to 2022 he was deputy head of school research, responsible for the REF 2020 submission, and he also led the development of the school’s biomedical engineering undergraduate degree programme.
In 2001 he was awarded a Royal Society-Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford, and in 2004 won the Desty memorial prize for innovation in separation science.
From 2013 to 2017 he was a Royal Society industry fellow with Sharp Labs.
He is co-founder and director of Verso Biosense, developing implantable vital signs sensors, and iFast Diagnostics commercialising rapid antimicrobial resistance tests.
He is a scientific advisor to several companies including Nuclera Nucleics.
He has published nearly 300 journal papers, and is editor of Microfluidics and Nanofluidics.
From 2015 to 2020 he held a Royal Society Wolfson research merit award.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the IET.
In 2019 he was elected a fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, and in 2020 he was awarded an MBE for services to Biomedical Engineering.
