Module overview
By 2030, 7.8% of the world’s adult population is expected to be living with diabetes. (World Health Organisation). If current trends persist, one in three people in England will be obese by 2034 and one in ten will develop type 2 diabetes. The total cost of diabetes in the UK is 23.7 billion, this figure is predicted to rise to 39.8 billion by 2036. This increasing burden of diabetes impacts on a wide range of professional services across primary and secondary care. Health care professionals will be increasingly called upon to support the delivery of high quality multidisciplinary diabetes care across the sector.
This module will provide a detailed overview of the management of adult diabetes in primary and secondary care. Sessions will include a comprehensive introduction, management of complications, pharmacology and diabetes management, the role of the dietitian and diabetes specialist nurse and the foot in diabetes (including peripheral vascular disease).
